MAC Dance Academy

MAC Dance Academy is a classically taught dance studio that fosters individuality and fun for all dancers.

This low-key, low-cost program provides extraordinary dance instruction by Teah Keogh (“Miss Teah”) in ballet, tap, and jazz, and also touches on contemporary, hip-hop, and gymnastics — all in a safe, fun learning environment.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Spring Session 2020 will be continued in late August, through mid-October. Dancers will meet outdoors whenever possible, and class sizes are limited to allow social distancing. Masks are required while inside the building. Sanitizer and hand-washing sinks are available on site. Parents/guardians will not be allowed inside the building during class unless absolutely necessary, or if the age of your child requires the presence of a guardian. We ask that all guardians do a self-assessment with child(ren) at home before coming to dance class: Check for increased temperature, nausea, vomiting, coughing or sore throat. Have you or has anyone in your household been tested for COVID-19, come in contact with anyone who has COVID-19, been exposed to COVID-19, or traveled out of the state recently? Please abide by state rules and regulations. If you are experiencing any symptoms or answer "yes" to any of the aforementioned questions, please do not allow your child to attend MAC Dance.

MAC Dance Academy runs two ten-week sessions. Caregivers are invited to watch a class during the final week of the fall session and to view a performance at the end of the spring session.

Children in Preschool dance must have an adult in attendance each week in class, fully participating and aiding their child where and when necessary. This class is designed as an introduction to ballet, tap, and basic mat work, with a heavy focus on movement and music. It is very free form, and some children will follow along and participate while others will play and dance around on their own and that is OKAY. This class is supposed to be EXPLORATORY and FUN. Leotard, tights, ballet slippers, and tap shoes are required.

Beginner dance classes are designed for children ready to explore ballet, tap, and basic tumbling skills. Students in Beginner dance should be confident enough to come up to our dance space without an adult. There will be weekly lessons in classical dance instruction, but still lots of fun games and activities each week. Leotard, tights, ballet slippers and tap shoes are required.

Intermediate dance class has been designed for the student ready to take dance to the next level. We will be spending our time focusing on ballet, tap, jazz, and more advanced tumbling skills. Leotard, convertible tights, ballet slippers and tap shoes are required.

Girls: plain, long-sleeved,  black leotards , pink tights, pink ballet slippers, and black tap shoes. A ballet skirt is optional. Hair should always be pulled back.
Boys: black pants, black tee shirt, and black ballet slippers and tap shoes.

Most tap shoes now come with elastic straps. Please purchase these if possible. Otherwise, please replace the ribbon with black elastic to make it easier for students to change from ballet to tap shoes; Lisa at Body and Sole Dance Supply [link] (331 State Road, N. Dartmouth) has a list of everything needed for MAC dancers.

Participation and Caregivers

Music and Movement participants should have ONE ADULT ONLY attend class with their child. No other children or adults are allowed in the dance room. Caregivers of Beginner and Intermediate dancers wait for their dancer in the waiting area on the first floor.

Any school cancellations in the ORR school district will also cancel dance class. If Miss Teah is unable to make a class there will be a substitute or class will be cancelled via email and the MAC Dance Academy Parent Info Facebook Group (please request to join). Any cancellations will be made up at the end of the ten-week program. Caregiver watch days and recitals are not  rescheduled.
