MAC Dance Academy

MAC Dance Academy is a classically taught dance studio that fosters individuality and fun for dancers of all ages and experience levels.

This relaxed dance program provides extraordinary dance instruction in ballet, tap, jazz, and also touches on contemporary, hip-hop, and gymnastics — all in a safe, fun learning environment.

As the only program of its kind in the SouthCoast, MAC Dance Academy offers an alternative to traditional dance studios with yearly dance commitments, long rehearsal hours each week, expensive costumes, and long annual recitals. The MAC dance program offers a more laid back option for both children and adults who wish to practice or learn new skills, meet others, and have fun.

Class Descriptions

Music & Movement (ages birth - 2.11)
Our Early Childhood Music & Movement class is designed to get little ones up, moving, and having fun! During the toddler and preschool years, children are developing both fine and gross motor skills. Through music and movement, we help them build body awareness, coordination, and spatial understanding—all while dancing, singing, and playing. This class features a variety of songs and playful activities that encourage movement, creativity, and joy. It’s a fun and educational way to support physical development while introducing the rhythm and structure of dance.

Required Attire: Nothing is required for this class, just bare or socked little feet and an adult.

Preschool/Kinderstep Dance (ages 3-5)
This class is a joyful introduction to ballet, tap, and basic tumbling, all blended with a strong focus on movement and music. This class is designed to be exploratory and fun—giving young dancers the freedom to express themselves, whether they’re following along or dancing to their own beat.

We embrace the playful, imaginative spirit of preschoolers and understand that every child engages in their own way. Some may participate in structured activities, while others move freely—and that’s perfectly okay! The goal is to build comfort, confidence, and a love for dance.

Required attire: leotard, tights, ballet slippers, and tap shoes.

Elementary Dance (ages 6+)
Our elementary dance class is perfect for children who are ready to explore ballet, tap, and basic tumbling in a more structured setting. Each week includes lessons in classical dance technique, paired with fun games and creative activities to keep young dancers engaged and excited. This class helps build coordination, discipline, and confidence—all while fostering a love for movement and music.

Required attire: leotard, tights, ballet slippers, and tap shoes.

Tumbling (ages 6+)
Our tumbling class is designed for students who are ready to build basic tumbling skills in a safe, fun environment and are ready to build on their strength, control, and coordination. This class focuses on refining foundational movements like rolls, handstands, and cartwheels, while introducing more advanced skills such as round-offs, backbends, walkovers, and handsprings.

Students will work on flexibility, body awareness, and technique in a safe, supportive environment that encourages progress at every level. Whether your child is a dancer, athlete, or simply loves to move, this class provides a strong foundation for physical confidence and continued growth.

Required attire: Fitted athletic or dancewear that allows for safe, unrestricted movement. Bare feet recommended.

Attire

Girls: plain, long-sleeved, black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, and black tap shoes. A ballet skirt is optional. Hair should always be pulled back.
Boys: black pants, black tee shirt, and black ballet slippers and tap shoes.

Most tap shoes now come with elastic straps. Please purchase these if possible. Otherwise, please replace the ribbon with a black hair elastic to make it easier for students to change from ballet to tap shoes;  Body and Sole Dance Supply (331 State Road, N. Dartmouth) has everything needed. Amazon also sells these items.
