Synopsis
These Shining Lives chronicles the strength and determination of four women considered expendable in their day. The beauty of Catherine and her friends’ relationship with one another and with those they love, is a story of survival in its most transcendent sense, as they refuse to allow the company that stole their health to kill their spirits — or endanger the lives of those who come after them.

Characters

Catherine Donahue – (20s or 30s) – A 19-year-old homemaker who develops into a fighter as the story unfolds.

Charlotte Purcell – (20s or 30s) – The leader of the Radium Dial group; outgoing, outspoken, tends to hide her tender heart.

Frances O’Connell: (20s-40s) – The kind, level-headed “moral backbone” of the Radium Dial group.

Pearl Payne – (20s-30s) – The jokester of the group, Pearl brings innocence and joy to the Radium girls. Pearl sings briefly.

Tom Donahue – (20s-30s) Catherine’s husband. Steel worker, very much in love with his wife.

Mr. Reed – (20s-60s) Foreman overseeing the woman at Radium Dial.

Smaller roles include:

Atty. Leonard Grossman / Company Doctor / Radio Announcer / Dr. Dalitsch / Dr. Rowntree (male roles 20s-60s). These roles are vital to the story but require fewer memorized lines. One or two additional actors may double up on the parts.
