The Marion Art Center partners with the Marion Community Center to present a public reading of Frederick Douglass’s 1852 speech What to the Slave is the Fourth of July? A diverse group of readers from the SouthCoast region will present an abridged version of Douglass’s famous speech. Audience members are invited to join the community conversation led by Dr. Moise St. Louis, in conjunction with the reading portion of the program.

The Marion Council on Aging will serve lunch at 12:00pm prior to the event. Anyone wishing to join for lunch may do so with a $5 donation and should call the COA office at 508-748-3570 by Thursday, July 2 at 12:00pm to make their reservation.
