Meet the ArtistsLinda Costa’s watercolors are innovative and unique. Her vision of the world and her technique using gold gesso and antique paints result in truly original renderings of her surroundings, capturing a sense of inner light. For the past 25 plus years, Linda has worked primarily in watercolor. She began her career using pen and ink to create detailed realistic drawings. This love of detail and appreciation for the power of small strokes served as a foundation for her watercolors. Linda currently lives in Marion and spent several years in the Philadelphia area before moving here. She has had many shows in Pennsylvania and northern Delaware and is represented by Hardcastles Gallery in Centerville, Delaware. She is a signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and also belongs to the Philadelphia Watercolor Society. Fairhaven painter, Cynthia Getchell, began drawing in early childhood, but did not take her talent seriously until the late 1990’s when she was commissioned to paint a series of murals at Davy’s Locker in New Bedford, Massachusetts. She had worked as a waitress there for nearly twenty years. With the encouragement of her husband, Jack, she studied literature, writing, history and art for a few semesters at Bridgewater State College while still waitressing and raising their daughter Jane. On the advise of her professor, she began to paint full time and studied with professional artists such as John Borowicz of Dartmouth, landscape painter, Don Demers of Maine and portrait painter, Deborah Macy of New Bedford. Cynthia began showing her work publicly in the spring of 2000 at local venues with much success. She has since participated in twenty-five regional and national shows and competitions, collecting almost as many awards along the way. She works at her home studio in Fairhaven and refers to herself as a painter, because she firmly believes that the word “artist” must be earned with study and hard work. Her goal is to someday earn that title.
