The Marion Art Center, is pleased to announce the opening of NANCY DYER MITTON & ALAN HOUGHTON MCCORD, PAINTINGS:Reception on Friday evening, July 22 from 6:00 – 8:00PM. The exhibition runs through August 24, 2011. |
Ms. Mitton and Mr. McCord are childhood friends. Both artists have lived in Marion, Massachusetts most of their lives as summer and year-round residents. This decade of paintings features their timeless love of natural forms found in their home environments and travels to the Southwest, the Caribbean and France. Nancy Dyer Mitton paints in oil on a variety of surfaces- linen, canvas, wood and paper. Alan Houghton McCord uses varied mediums of glazed acrylic and oil and etchings in pen and ink. Nancy Dyer Mitton earned her B.F.A. in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston where she studied with George Nick. A selection of her paintings will be included in the upcoming tribute exhibition, “Galvanized by George Nick” at the Duxbury Art Complex Museum which opens May 20, 2012. Ms. Mitton’s work has been represented by Soprafina Gallery in Boston since 2001, the same year she received her second artist residency by the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore to live and paint in Brittany at Rochefort-en-Terre, France. She is a member of the Artists’ Fellowship and an award-winning exhibiting artist member of the National Arts Club in NYC. Alan Houghton McCord’s formal training began at the School of Visual Arts in New York City where he studied with William Scharf. He later spent two years as an apprentice at the Florence studio of Hans Staudi. In 1982, Alan McCord’s drawings were included in the Drawing Center Exhibition in lower Manhattan. During the same year Mr. McCord’s work was published in the center’s New Drawing in America. His paintings have been in gallery exhibitions in California, New York, Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts. He is a member of the Century Association in NYC. |
